Trust for Nature is a notforprofit organization that works to guard native plants and wildlife in cooperation with private landowners. However, as two thirds of Victoria is privately owned, many of these species and their habitats are not currently getting the necessary protection. We have since evolved into one of Victoria’s primary land conservation organizations, with considerable tools to aid people protect biodiversity on private land. In 1978, Trust for Nature developed conservation covenants as a way to save native plants and wildlife on private land, and we have now protected more than 58,00 hectares through over 1,300 endless conservation covenants. The Trust has also purchased and preserved more than 59 properties across Victoria through its Revolving Fund, as well as currently owning and managing 44 properties that conceal over 36,00 hectares of Victoria. Within two decades, protecting native plants and wildlife on private land will be recognized and valued as a central portion of mainstream Australian environmental practice. There will be a shared expectation and responsibility among communities, landowners and governments that meaningful natural areas on privately owned land should be conserved, just as national and state parks are protected. As a past journalist with specialties in both environment and rural affairs, and from a farming family, Gayle has a mighty interest in the way agribusiness can positively contribute to the conservation of the environment it relies upon, and the opportunities to energies and involve farmers in safeguarding our spontaneous heritage for coming generations. Trust for Nature is the only organization outside of government with the skill to truly safeguard our automatic heritage on private land. Sylvia’s career has also encompassed busy at senior Australian and Victorian public service levels in various areas of policy and program management and managing her own consultancy business. Sylvia is also a board member of Regional Arts Victoria. Camilla is a powerful advocate for sustainable land management and the conservation and protection of significant spontaneous prosperity and ecology on private land, for the earnings of tomorrow generations. Charles’ more than 45 years’ of experience in the natural environment across Victoria has given him unique insights into the need for conservation of private land. Ecological systems do not recognize the boundaries between public and private land conservation on all tenures is equally important. Greg has a mighty interest in horticultural plant science and ecology. She has worked in both the public and private sectors, predominantly in finance for the preceding 15 years, with significant trust management experience.
