The Newton and Chilwell Cricket Club is one of the oldest cricket clubs within the Geelong region and boasts a proud history with the club’s origins tracing back to the 1880s. Behind many years running parallel with the Newton (Senior Matting) Cricket Club the two clubs decided to amalgamate in 1948 when the club took on its give shape in the Geelong Cricket Association. Since that time the club has developed a reputation as a successful and healthy administered sporting body. The on field victory of the club over the sixty years is indicated by the consistent performances of club teams at all levels over that period. The club has consistently performed healthy in the Club Championship winning that award eight times. The Newton and Chilwell Cricket Club has been a standard setter in a number of ways for other Geelong clubs, particularly in terms of coaching personnel, administration, fund raising and junior development programs. In terms of administration the club has been most fortunate to be served by some of the maximum qualified cricket administrators in the Geelong region, many of whom were also able to take leading positions of responsibility with the Geelong Cricket Association throughout its history and indeed over recent years with admission of the Geelong Cricket Club to Victorian Premier Cricket ranks. The club has taken huge pride in its ongoing commitment to the administration and promotion of cricket within the region and beyond and prides itself on producing a host of tall performing administrators who have held positions at both the national and state level.
